• BIRTH doula support

    For expectant families in Frome

  • What is a doula?

    Support for expectant families

Traditionally, families would have the support of the extended family and community during this important stage, however the way we live now mean families are often more spread out and lives busy, while the need for help remains. Doula support can nurture the mother and support the father during this intense time of change; offering whatever combination of practical and emotional support is needed for the birth and postnatal care.

I am happy to support all types of birth, and will help you find any information you need to have your best possible birth and postnatal experience.

    Why a doula?

Doulas offer support through pregnancy, during birth and to new parents. Studies have shown that the presence of a doula at a birth can have a significant positive impact on birth outcomes.

    • 31% decrease in the use of Pitocin
    • 28% decrease in the risk of Cesarean
    • 12% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth
    • 9% decrease in the use of any medications for pain relief
    • 14% decrease in the risk of newborns being admitted to a special care nursery
    • 34% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience

      - find out more about these figures and the evidence for doula support on Evidence Based Birth website.

    Continuity of Care

I can be there for you throughout pregnancy, during your birth and for the first 6 weeks of life with your new baby (or longer if you need it).

    Mind and body support

Every doula has a different approach and specialisms. I am a yoga teacher and practice pregnancy and postnatal massage so these are included in my doula packages.

    Advocacy and Research

I see part of my role as being a researcher for you and and advocate for your choices. I'm able to sift through wealth of information that's now available online, and through my own library of resources, to get you the appropriate evidence based information to base your decisions on. Being an advocate for you means: I will support your choices, listen to you and help you gather information to make informed decisions.

    Birth Coach

A doula can help coach and cheerlead you through labour and birth. It's important to get to know your doula and to feel comfortable with them during these big moments.

    How does it work?

I suggest you chat with several doula to get a feel for who you click with.

I'm coming back to doula-ing and happy to offer services at a reduced rate for families in Frome. Please get in touch if you're interested in booking me for Autumn 2018 births.
